Lavender Picking in Stellenbosch

Lavender Picking; Canettevallei

The week had been a whirlwind, and I had no idea what Greg had up his sleeve. He’d been dropping hints about a special day he had planned for us, and I was buzzing with anticipation.

Our day began with a warm cup of coffee from Vida, our favorite local café. As we sipped our drinks, I tried to get a hint out of him about what was next, but he kept his cards close to his chest. All he shared was a mischievous grin and the promise of a day I’d never forget.

As we drove out of town, the scenic beauty of Stellenbosch began to unfold around us. And then, to my surprise, we pulled into Canettevallei Lavender Farm. The sight was breathtaking. Endless rows of vibrant lavender stretched out before us, their gentle scent filling the air.

Greg had planned a lavender picking adventure for us. As we walked hand in hand through the fields, we chatted, laughed, and lost ourselves in the beauty of the moment. The farm, tucked away in Stellenboschkloof, was a haven of tranquility. We learned that after travels to France, the owners had been inspired to plant lavender, which eventually blossomed into a thriving business.

Picking lavender was therapeutic. Each bundle we collected was a testament to the love and care with which the farm was maintained. And as we filled our baskets, I couldn’t help but think of the Shakespeare quote I’d read on their website: “Always throw salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for good luck, and fall in love whenever you can.”

After our lavender picking adventure, Greg had one more surprise: a romantic dinner to cap off our day. But as delightful as dinner was, it was the unexpected joy of the lavender fields that remained etched in my memory.

In the end, it wasn’t just about the lavender or the dinner. It was about the thought Greg put into planning a day full of surprises, laughter, and love. A day that reminded me of why we’re perfect together.
